Soda Ash is the fixative for Procion MX Dyes. It can be used by adding to a dye bath or it can be used to pre-soak fabric for tray dyeing or when using thickened dyes.

Supplied as a powder it is caustic so please wear gloves and a mask when handling. Please continue to wear gloves when using in solution.

There are lots of recipes for using and fixing Procion MX Dyes. As a guide I add 3 tablespoons of Soda Ash for every 3 teaspoons of dye used in a dye bath. Where I have used less than 3 teaspoons of dye in a dye bath I still add 3 tablespoons of Soda Ash to the bath. I prepare Soda Ash solution by mixing adding 3 heaped tablespoons of Soda Ash per each litre of warm water.
